Richard Berger: Member Spotlight
So, what brought you to CrossFit ?
My daughter Kailynn, bought my first month of crossfit as a Father’s Day gift. That was in 2015 and as it turns out, it was one of the best gifts I have received. Crossfit has changed the way I feel about my physical fitness.
What made you stay?
I believe the reason I keep coming back to Mainland Crossfit is because of the feeling of being part of a team. The positive reinforcement and the great coaching skills. The way everyone cheers and pushes each other to complete the drills.
How long have you been CrossFitting?
I have been Crossfitting for almost 2 years.
What are some of your goals?
One of my goals that I’ve been working on is to do a perfect over head squat. My long term goal is to keep challenging myself in my physical fitness and health. To continue to make the healthiest choices for myself.
Have they been met?
I have met a lot of my goals but I am a work in progress. I push myself on a daily basis and will continue to challenge myself in my physical fitness.
Finding Mainland Crossfit and sticking with it has been a milestone for me. This is the first time that I have found a fitness routine that I truly like and feel challenged enough to stick with. I want to be able to stay fit, healthy and positive. I hope to be 70 years old and still Crossfitting!
Benefits you have noticed?
The benefits of Crossfitting for me that I have noticed are my endurance and strength. My stress levels feel lower and of course the changes in my body size and shape.
Any changes to brag about?
I have accomplished a 28 pound weight loss since starting Crossfitting, and that alone would give me bragging rights. But the challenges that I have met and the way I feel about myself and the changes I have made to live a healthier lifestyle are what I am most proud
What do you do out there in the real world?
In the “real world ” I am a loving and devoted husband of 30 years, a father to three wonderful adult children and a grandfather of five grandsons. I am a business owner in the Trucking industry for the last 23 years.
Your favorite WOD?
My favorite WOD was the Twelve Days of Christmas WOD. Not only was it fun but also very challenging.
Biggest CrossFit Accomplishment?
My biggest accomplishment thus far has to be my running. I am able to run further and have my breathing under control and I feel I have greater endurance.
I would like to take this time to say Thank You to Tidal Wave and Mainland Crossfit for being a positive support system. You have made Crossfit a positive, fun and challenging experience for me. I feel as though I am part of a great family of athletes that support and cheer each other on. I want to thank you for giving me that!
